Historical Background and Activities in the Unit
Social Sciences Programme is a component of General Studies Programme, an innovation that gives University of Nigeria a unique character. Social Sciences as one of the programmes in the General Studies became a Unit and was launched along with the other three components in the 1961/1962 academic session. The programme focuses not only on how a person lives in the society but also how one ought to live. The course acquaints the students with political processes, the social system, social change and problems associated with life in the society.
